Magorian Mine Services used a WS 30 to excavate a wine cavern in the Napa Valley, California.

The TCU was mounted to a Cat 416 backhoe loader to excavate the tunnels through the volcanic ash; a task traditionally carried out using costly roadheading equipment.

The caverns are used to store wine throughout the fermentation and maturing process. Being underground the temperature remains stable, a prerequisite for the production of a good vintage.

The TCU achieved over 10 feet of driveage per 9-hour shift, curring accurate tunnel profiles in preparation for the application of a stabilising shotcrete layer.

The TCU can also be used to trim back the shotcrete prior to the application of a finishing concrete layer.
